A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store and then sends back on later visits. Cookies let a site remember things between page loads and sessions — for example, that you are signed in. Local storage is a related browser feature: it lets a site keep small pieces of data on your device, but unlike a cookie that data is never automatically sent to a server. It simply stays in your browser until you or the site clears it.
This policy explains which of these technologies Toolumen relies on, why, and how you can control them. Toolumen is a browser-first set of tools, so we use very little of either — only what is needed to keep you signed in, take payments, and remember your display preferences.
We group what we store into three categories. We do not use any others on the tools themselves.
These keep the site working and keep you signed in. Toolumen uses Clerk for authentication, and Clerk sets session cookies when you sign in. Without them, a gated tool cannot tell that you are logged in, so you would be signed out on every page load. These cookies do not track your activity across other websites — they exist only to maintain your session on Toolumen. Because they are essential, they are not optional: using the site requires them.
When you start a checkout to upgrade, our payment processor, Stripe, sets cookies in your browser. Stripe uses them to process the transaction securely and to help detect and prevent fraud. These are only involved during checkout and billing — if you never start a payment, they are not needed.
Toolumen remembers whether you prefer the light or dark theme. This preference is stored in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, which means it stays on your device and is never sent to our servers. Clearing your browser's site data resets it to the default.
We do not run advertising cookies, ad networks, or cross-site tracking pixels on the tools. We do not sell your data, and we do not use cookies to build an advertising profile of you.
Toolumen is built to be light on telemetry. We do not attach analytics tracking to the individual tools. Where we measure anything at all, it is limited to basic, aggregate usage of the site so we can keep it reliable — never a per-tool record of what you convert, check, or audit. You are always in control of cookies and local storage through your browser. Most browsers let you view what a site has stored, delete it, and block future cookies — usually under Settings, then a Privacy, Security, or Site Data section. You can clear Toolumen's stored data the same way you would for any site.
Please note that blocking or deleting the strictly necessary cookies will break sign-in: without them, Toolumen cannot keep you authenticated, so the gated tools will not work and you will be signed out. Clearing your stored data also resets your theme preference back to the default.
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time as Toolumen evolves — for example, if we add a new feature that relies on a different cookie. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be communicated more prominently where appropriate.
